Federal Government recruits 2,190 new tax officers

Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun says the Federal Government has recruited and trained 2,190 Community Tax Liaison Officers (CTLOs) under the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS).  Adeosun, in a statement by her Special Adviser, Media and Communications, Mr Oluyinka Akintunde, said that 1,710 CTLOs had already been deployed to 33 states, out of the number recruited and trained.  She said that their task was to raise awareness about the scheme and taxation in general.She said that the CTLOs were currently operating in Adamawa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Enugu, Kaduna, Kwara, Lagos, Nassarawa, Niger, Ogun and Oyo states among others.   The minister said there was no hiding place for tax evaders residing in Nigeria or abroad, noting that the Federal Government had put in place a data mining mechanism to fish out evaders.“The unique cooperation between the various arms of Federal Government, state governments and foreign governments has provided an

Zimbabwean Archbishop wears collar again 10 years after cutting it on TV to protest against Mugabe

Zimbabwean Archbishop, John Sentamu has worn his collar for the first time in 10 years, now that President Robert Mugabe has resigned.   The Archbishop of York cut his old collar on live TV back in 2007 in protest at abuses in Zimbabwe, saying he would not wear one again until Mugabe stepped down. Dr. Sentamu said a South African-style truth and reconciliation process was needed to heal Zimbabwe’s divisions following the end of Mr. Mugabe’s 37-year rule. Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom presents N651.5bn budget for 2018

On Frday, Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom  presented the 2018 budget of N651.50 billion to the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly for consideration. The budget is higher than the 2017 figure 0f N485.79 billion with N165.71 billion.  The Appropriation Bill comprised N92.69 billion recurrent expenditure and N437.67 billion for capital expenditure while consolidated revenue stood at N120.86 billion.  Emmanuel said that the total projected recurrent revenue for the year was N289 billion as against N188.50 billion estimated in 2017. He said that the Bill named “Budget of Consolidation on Industrialisation” , was expected to drive the state government’s industrialisation policy to logical conclusion.  The governor said that the preparation of the budget was guided by the International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS).  According to him, the policy framework of 2018 budget is also predicated on developmental objectives.  He assured that catalysts outlined in the

Diego Maradona wants his daughter to be jailed after accusing her of plotting to steal £3.4million from him

Football legend, Diego Maradona, has accused his two daughters of stealing £3.4million from him and has called for one of them to be jailed. He also accused his ex-wife of being involved in the alleged theft, alleging they stashed some of the money in Uruguay. He is suing ex-wife Claudia Villafane and daughters Dalma and Giannina. . RCCG pastor believed to be an ex-cult member, murdered in Ikorodu

A Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God mission, Fingers of God Parish, Victor Kanayo, was murdered in Offin, Igbogbo area of Ikorodu in Lagos state today Sunday, November 26th. In a statement released this afternoon, the Lagos state police command spokesperson, Chike Oti, says the command has made a couple of arrests and suspects are being questioned with a view to discover the author of the heinous crime. Suspected female burglar caught with bunch of keys, paraded topless in Edo (Photos)

A middle-aged woman was seriously beaten and paraded topless in public, after she was caught with bunch of keys she allegedly uses to burgle homes in Edo State. According to online reports, the unidentified woman met her Waterloo after residents caught her carrying out an operation at someone's home. They also found in her possession, other stealing tools. When she was interrogated by the angry residents, the woman reportedly confessed to stealing from different people with the keys. See more photos below...

Top student, 19, secretly gives birth in her dorm room before throwing her baby out of the fifth-storey window

A "bright" university student in China reportedly threw her newborn baby out of the window of her dorm room after giving birth in secret during a break. The 19-year-old mother is reportedly studying at the Xi'an Engineering College in north-west China, and she is trained to be a kindergarten teacher. She was studying early childhood education. School authorities described her as a "bright" student who never missed a class. No one knew she was pregnant because it was winter and she was always covered up. Her parents didn't know she was pregnant either. The student was reportedly seen at a morning self-study session after she gave birth. The baby, whose gender has not been identified, was found dead in an alley next to a student accommodation hall of her school. Students living in the hall claimed to have seen the baby being thrown from an upper floor window. According to Kan Kan News, the incident was found out by a student as large amount of b

EFCC denies sharing properties wanted pension boss, Abdulrasheed Maina, collected from pension thieves

EFCC has denied claims made by the Chairman of the Senate Committee investigating Abdulrasheed Maina's reinstatement that some of its officials have shared the 222 houses Maina collected from pension thieves while he was chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Pension Reforms. Woman's leg gets destroyed after getting run over by a giant Mack Truck in New York (Graphic Video)

This is a very disturbing accident that occurred on Thursday outside the projects in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, New York. A woman was run over by a giant Mack truck while crossing a busy intersection. As seen in the video, the helpless woman lost one of her legs in the tragic accident. Soon after, passersby rushed to the scene with some of them recording the woman, who appeared to be in shock. It's yet unknown if the woman survived the disturbing accident. At a public hearing at the House of Representatives yesterday, Malami told the lawmakers investigating Maina's controversial reinstatement that the letter for Maina's reinstatement was not issued by him as the reinstatement of Maina was still in progress before the letter was released to him. Malami who told the Senate last week that he met with Maina in Dubai sometime last year, told the House panel that Maina gave useful information on pension fraud to his office which was shared with security agencies and this has led to the discovery of billions of looted pension funds and physical assets. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Gombe zonal office has secured the conviction of Muhammad Abubakar Mubi (MD of A.M. Global Energy) to six months imprisonment before Justice M. J.  Umar of the Federal High Court, Gombe on one count charge bordering on Obtaining Money by False Pretence.   Mubi, the managing director of A. M. Global Energy Limited with offices in Lagos and Kaduna was arrested sometime in 2012 following a complaint by one Bello Muhammad Malala of Ashaka Cement Gombe, alleging that in 2009, one Hassan Zankan introduced him to the convict who offered to supply him with  20 trailer load of Low Pour Fuel Oil (LPFO) at the rate of N62 per litre, totaling  N23.5m. #Fraud : MD of A.M. Man apprehended with 7 human heads in Kwara

The Kwara stare command has paraded a man identified as Olayinka Abbas Akeem, who was recently apprehended with seven human heads along the Ilorin-Ajase Ipo road in the state. According to the state Commissioner of Police, Lawan Ado, the suspect confessed that himself and his friend, Tunde aka Bante, exhumed the human parts from a cemetery located at Igbo Owu community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday, November 21st. Akeem told the police that his friend lured him into exhuming the body with the belief that using human parts for ritual is the surest way to make money. While Akeem was apprehended, Tunde took to his heels and he is currently on the run. The police boss said the suspect will soon be charged to court as soon as the investigation was concluded on the matter.

President Muhammadu Buhari has commended the people of Anambra State, the governorship candidates, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), election observers as well as security agencies and other stakeholders, on the peaceful conduct of the November 18 gubernatorial election in the state. The death toll in the suicide bomb attack that took place inside a mosque in Mubi community in Adamawa state this morning has risen to 50. A teenage boy strapped with explosives, attacked the Madina mosque in the Unguwar Shuwa area of Mubi, Adamawa state, killing the worshippers. The state police command spokesperson, Othman Abubakar, told AFP that 50 persons have been confirmed dead. “So far we have at least 50 dead from an attack at a mosque in Mubi,” he said See graphic photos from the incident below
