FG will establish mobile police base in southern Kaduna – IG

The Nigeria Police on Saturday said it would establish a mobile police base in Kafanchan to address security problems in Southern part of Kaduna State. The Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, announced this to news men during a fact finding visit to the trouble area. “ From the discussion I had with Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-rufai, we have decided to station a mobile police base in Kafanchan. “We are here to see things for ourselves so that we have a lasting peace in the whole area.’’ The IGP said a panel had been set up to investigate the crisis in the area thoroughly, including the allegation that 800 people were killed in the crisis. Idris said some of the reports on Southern Kaduna were exaggerated. He said most of the leadership of the villages had a lot to contribute to peace and unity of the area. “Some of the community leaders need to be cautioned. They are contributing to creating situation that does not exist.’’

Get us out of recession in 2017, NLC to Buhari

The Nigeria Labour Congress has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to give priority to the need to fix the economy and getting the country out of recession in 2017. Ekiti state youths to get 600 Hectares for farming

No fewer than 114 youths are to get about 600 Hectares for crop farming in Ekiti State under the Agriculture Service Provider Programme. The initiative is a collaboration between the State Government and the Agro Nigerian Ventures Limited in Ado Ekiti. Under the ASPP, at least five graduates from each of the16 Local Governments in the state had been trained in farming, especially crops. Speaking in Ado Ekiti, the Chairman of ANVL, Mathew Ajayi Aderiye, said the collaboration would improve food security in the nation and reduce unemployment among youths. “We have just trained the 114 youths at the Federal Polytechnics, Ado Ekiti. The programme has changed the thinking of these trainees towards farming. Federal Ministry Of Education Expels 29 College Students Over Riot

The Federal Ministry of Education has approved the expulsion of 29 students of the Federal College of Education, (TECH) Gombe. The students were dismissed for their roles in a riot that took place in June. Admission will be withdrawn from 35 other students, and another 11 will repeat an academic session, the school said. This was contained in a press statement signed by the College Provost, Adamu Abbas. He said the punishment was recommended by a committee set by the college to investigate the causes of the riot. “In a letter dated 6th December 2016 the Minister of Education has approved the recommendations of the College’s expanded management committee held on 20th July 2016 on the number of students based on their established level of involvement in the riot,” Mr. Abbas said.

Dangote truck kills three in Ekiti auto crash

Three persons are confirmed dead in an autocrash, involving a truck belonging to Dangote Groups, which occurred in Ido Ekiti on Saturday in front of Ekiti Parapo Grammar School. A resident said the accident occurred when the brake of the truck failed and the vehicle climbed the median before running over two motorcyclists, popularly known as okada, riders who were carrying other persons with them. The Police Public Relation officer, Ekiti State Command, Mr Alberto Adeyemi, who confirmed the accident to journalists, said the driver of the Dangote truck had been arrested by the police. He also said the mangled bodies of those that lost their lives had been deposited in the morgue of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, while those injured were receiving treatments at the Intensive Care Unit of the same hospital. A Nigerian man named Tochukwu Nnadi was choked to death by police in South Africa on Thursday December 29th after he was arrested for allegedly selling drugs. According to eyewitnesses, the man, popularly known as King Kingsley, was not struggling after he was arrested and handcuffed but one of the officers held onto his neck and squeezed tightly until blood started gushing out. Assistant Commissioner of Police commits suicide in Edo

An Assistant Commissioner of Police, identified as one Christopher Osakue, has reportedly committed suicide in Benin, the Edo State capital.‎ It was gathered that the late Osakue allegedly shot himself in the head with his service pistol in his residence located on Upper Sokponba on Wednesday. The deceased was said to have sent a woman and a little boy, said to be living with him, on an errand before killing himself. It was also learnt that he did not leave any suicide note behind. The late police officer was said to be in charge of training and development at the state police command after his recent posting from Ondo State.‎‎ It was gathered that the ACP had earlier suffered a partial stroke a few years back and was gradually recovering from it before the incident occurred. Nigerian Navy offers free medical services to Bayelsa communities

The Central Naval Command on Saturday said it would focus its monthly medical outreach on rural coastal communities in Bayelsa. The service disclosed this in Sabagreia, saying the effort was part of its effort to promote cordial relationship with its host communities. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that a medical team comprising doctors, pharmacists, ophthalmologists and other medical personnel provided a full day service at Sabagreia community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area. Speaking at the occasion, Rear Admiral Mohammed Garba, Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), CNC, said that the emphasis on rural communities was due to obvious lack of access to health services in the area. Man stabs five-year-old stepdaughter to death

A man allegedly sat on his five-year-old stepdaughter’s chest and stabbed her before setting her ablaze because she asked for a snack. 25-year-old Thomas McClellan from Michigan was angry because the little girl, Luna Younger, refused to leave his room and insisted that he gave her food, during court’s preliminary hearing on Thursday. Luna Dailynews New York  reports that  McClellan told investigators he wrestled the Five-year-old stepdaughter to the ground, sat on her hips and stabbed her multiple times in the chest. He then covered the girl’s dead body with blankets, poured vodka on the pile and set it on fire. Victoria McClellan, the  deceased’s mother was said to be at work when fire fighters were called in as flame spread through the ground-level apartment.
