Date for budget signing has not been fixed- Presidency says

The Presidency says no date has been fixed yet for the signing of the 2017 budget by the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo. Some media platforms earlier today reported that the 2017 budget would be signed into law by the acting president tomorrow   Thursday June 1st . However the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on National Assembly Matters, Ita Enang, has denied the reports. In an address to newsmen, Enang said that no date has been fixed yet as consultations regarding the budget is still ongoing. Recall that some weeks ago, controversy surrounding who would sign the budget came up when Lai Mohammed told state house correspondents that when the senate sends the budget to the Presidency, the person to sign the budget would then be decided.    Enang, in an interview with Channels TV, said that President Buhari who is currently on medical leave in the UK would be the one to sign the budget, despite the fact that he has handed over power to Osinbajo by virtue o

Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha sacks all his commissioners, including top officials

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has dismissed his entire cabinet members in what appears to be a strategic bid to restrengthen his administration. The governor on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, sacked his state executive council and 27 local government transition committees with immediate effect.   In a statement by the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Pascal Obi,  the Governor ordered the affected commissioners and transition committees to hand over to permanent secretaries or the most senior director in their ministries. According to him, the secretary to the government, the chief of staff, chairmen and members of statutory commissions such as ISEC, Civil Service Commission, local government service commission were not affected. "Also not affected in the cabinet shake-up are the state universal basic education board, the judicial service commission, and the house of assembly service commission. Osinbajo grants Lagos state government permission to reconstruct the International Airport road

Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has granted the Lagos State Government, permission to reconstruct the Murtala Mohammed International Airport Road from Oshodi which has been in a bad state for some years. The state government offered to reconstruct the road despite the fact that it is a Federal government owned road. The Secretary to the State Government, Tunji Bello,  disclosed the latest development in a statement released today. According to the statement, Ambode commends Osinbajo for granting the request of the state government to do the road. The Nigerian Senate has approved and passed the Bill on mutual assistance in criminal matters between Nigeria and other foreign states.   The executive bill presented to the senate by President Muhammadu Buhari, provides for the repeat of the money laundering offences, provide protection for employees of various institutions, provide appropriate penalties and other purposes.  After passing the Bill, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, said “this Anti-Money Laundering Legislation is a key component of President Muhammadu Buhari’s war on corruption agenda. This act will facilitate the needed cooperation with other states to prevent individuals from escaping prosecution by fleeing to another country. Photos of suspects arrested so far for the grisly lynching of military officer in Ghana

A number of suspects have been arrested over the grisly murder of military officer in Denkyira Boase in the Central Region, Ghana on Monday, May 29. The officer, Captain Maxwell Mahama was lynched by residents of the Denkyira Boase Township on suspicion of being an armed robber. He was a military officer with the 5th Infantry Batallion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra but on detachment duties there where he met his untimely death. Capt. Mahama who is the commander of the area military detachment, according to his subordinates, was seen jogging along the main road and as he stopped by to ask some women for directions, the women saw a pistol on him. Alarmed by the pistol on him, the women mistook him for an armed robber thereby alerting their assembly member who allegedly organised some men to lynch him and even burnt him in the process. Two notorious thieves/rapists nabbed and stripped naked in Ijagun, Ogun State

Two suspected thieves that have been terrorizing residents of Ijagun Town, Ogun State were apprehended on May 25. According to Oluwasanmi Adedamola, the suspects usually storm different female hostels to steal laptops, phones, clothes and other valuables at gunpoint. They are alleged to have raped some students during the attacks.

CCTV footage shows four men who allegedly killed security guards, robbing a shop in Abuja

A Facebook user, Dada Omotosho shared a CCTV footage showing four men breaking into a shop at AYM Shafa filling station, Apo, Abuja. According to him, the four guys killed two security guys attached to the complex and also raided the complex at the early hours of May 29th, 2017. He wrote; "Circulate till these thieves are arrested, the 4 notorious men killed the 2 security guards at the new AYM Shafa filling station by shoprite Apo, Abuja yesterday 29th May 2017 and raided the ultramodern complex during the wee hour." Donald Trump's communications director Mike Dubke resigns just after 3 months

Just three months into his job, White House communications director Mike Dubke has resigned. He stepped down a day before Trump embarked on his first foreign trip but kept the resignation away from the Public until today. He however continued to come to work at the White House and his official leave date has not been set.   According to a reports, Mike Dubke submitted his resignation on May 18, 2017 and offered to keep his post until Trump concluded his first foreign trip. Kellyanne Conway also confirmed the resignation in an interview with Fox where she said: "What I will say is that he has expressed his desire to leave the White House and made very clear that he would see through the President's international trip". Speaking to CNN, Dubke said "It has been a privilege to serve this president". A military officer with the (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra was on Monday, May 29th, lynched by residents of Denkyira Boaso of the Central region who mistook him for an armed robber. Captain Maxwell Mahama who is commander of a military detachment in the area was jogging along the Denkyira Boaso-Diaso road when he asked some women for direction. He was not in a uniform. The women reportedly called the Assembly man who organized the youths of the town to lynch him. They later burnt  his body. Meanwhile, Ghana Armed Forces have commenced investigations into the murder. The incident has sent heightened anxiety within the town after the perpetrators of the heinous crime realised the deceased was a military man on official duty. The Armed Forces in a statement signed by the Director of Public Relations, Col. Nigerian man declared wanted in Egypt for human trafficking

Police in Cairo, Egypt have declared wanted a 35-year-old Nigerian man, Dennis Abayomi Isemede, in connection with investigations into an alleged case of conspiracy to commit felonies and misdemeanors, trafficking adult persons for the purpose of committing a criminal offense, a fake marriage, counterfeiting and fake document circulation. Police has called on the citizen with useful information that can help locate him to contact the anti-trafficking office at 22-808950, any police station.

New study shows China as Asia's most corrupt country

Transparency International recently released a report on the level of corruption in the Asia Pacific Region. They spoke to nearly 22,000 people about their recent experiences with corruption in 16 countries and territories in the Asia Pacific region and at the end, China topped the list of the most corrupt in the region.   According to the report, In China, nearly three-quarters of the people surveyed said corruption has increased over the last three years. In the report, Police tops the list of public services most often demanding a bribe. Just under a third of people who had come into contact with a police officer in the last 12 months said they paid a bribe. Overall, 38 per cent of the poorest people surveyed said they paid a bribe, which is the highest proportion of any income group.

As today marks the 50th Anniversary of the end of the Biafra War in Nigeria, this is a throwback photo of the leader of the breakaway Republic of Biafra, Colonel Odumegwu Emeka Ojukwu popularly known as 'Ikemba' reading a speech as he declared the independence of Biafra on May 30th, 1967. Following the declaration, in July 1967,  the head of Nigeria’s military government, General Yakubu Gowon declared war and attacked Biafra for 30 months. After three years of non-stop fighting, in fear of being assassinated, General Odumegwu-Ojukwu in 1970 handed over power to his second in command, Major-General Philip Effiong and traveled to Ivory Coast where he was in exile for 13 years. In 1982, the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Shehu Aliyu Usman Shagari granted an official pardon to Odumegwu-Ojukwu and opened the road for a triumphant return for him. Acting president, Yemi Osibanjo has revealed that under the N100 billion social housing scheme of the present administration anyone who can afford N30,000 will be able to own a house. This he made known while speaking at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja  on Monday  May 29th at an event tagged "A Smile for Every Nigerian" organised to commemorate the administration's second anniversary. He said; "This is 100bn set aside for the Family Home Fund our Social Housing Project. The 100b is a yearly contribution to  our N1trn Social Housing Fund, the largest in the history of the country. Phyno, Pia Mia, Pulseng, and the controversial song and all the drama

Once again, there is drama in the Nigerian music scene and this time a lot of the players involved are really angry. So here's the gist. The song ‘I’m a fan’ is in the center of an international drama & while music fans are shrugging it off as a publicity stunt, music pundits believe it goes deeper that that. Slot Nigeria driver arrested with N5.95million worth of phones, laptops and accessories 

One of the drivers of the popular Nigerian phone retail outlet, Slot Nigeria Limited, has been arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command over the diversion of N5.95 million worth of laptops, mobile phones and its accessories, just as it assisted in the recovery of N4,654,224 worth of goods from the suspect. The suspect, Olumide Babajide, 42, from Kwara State, was tracked and arrested in Kaduna State, where he diverted the goods to after taking them from the Slot Nigeria Office based in Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos. The driver, who was engaged in March, 2017, by the company, was directed to move the consignment to Slot Outlet in Victoria Island, Lagos in May 2, 2017, when the incident happened.
