Dangote truck kills three in Ekiti auto crash

Three persons are confirmed dead in an autocrash, involving a truck belonging to Dangote Groups, which occurred in Ido Ekiti on Saturday in front of Ekiti Parapo Grammar School.
A resident said the accident occurred when the brake of the truck failed and the vehicle climbed the median before running over two motorcyclists, popularly known as okada, riders who were carrying other persons with them.
The Police Public Relation officer, Ekiti State Command, Mr Alberto Adeyemi, who confirmed the accident to journalists, said the driver of the Dangote truck had been arrested by the police.
He also said the mangled bodies of those that lost their lives had been deposited in the morgue of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, while those injured were receiving treatments at the Intensive Care Unit of the same hospital.
The Ido Council boss, Mr. Ayodele Arogbodo, said the Divisional Police Officer of the Ido Ekiti division and the Ekiti Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Mr. Ismaila Kugu, promptly visited the scene to ensure free flow of traffic along that route.
He explained that the Dangote truck was coming from Lagos State via Ijero Ekiti and lost control at Usi-Ido junction before crashing into the two moving commercial motorcyclists and overran them.
Arogbodo, who expressed sadness on the loss of the three persons, called on motorists to always exercise patience while driving on the road to prevent loss off innocent lives.
A resident said the deceased were of the same parents and that they were travelling to Usi Ekiti when the incident happened.
“The accident could have been worse than that but there were few vehicles on the road at that time.”

Niger Delta militants have renewed their threat to blow up more oil facilities in the region if the Federal Government do not drop the charges against a former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has since declared Tompolo wanted in February over an alleged N45.9bn fraud and charged him to court in absentia.
