FG deploys 6,856 N-POWER recruits in Enugu

A total of 6,856 recruits have been deployed to work in Enugu State under the Federal Government N-POWER job scheme, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Uche Eze, has said.
Eze disclosed this to newsmen in Enugu on Tuesday after a meeting of the State Steering Committee on the Federal Government – Enugu State Government Social Investment Programmes.
According to the commissioner, the social investment programmes will fully take off in the state on Feb. 1.
He said that the state government was a notable partner in all special intervention programmes of the federal government and would continue to take the partnership seriously.
He said, “On the N-POWER programme, about 6,856 recruits were deployed to the state and we have verified some of them, looking at their credentials to find out their areas of specialisation.
“We also considered their local governments of origin so that we will deploy them to places close to them for them to be very effective in the discharge of their functions.
The commissioner, however, said that 4,910 of the deployed recruits had so far turned up for the verification exercise, which held in the three senatorial zones of the state.
He said, “After the verification exercise, 3,980 recruits were designated to teach and 406 will work in our health facilities while 524 will be in the agricultural sector.
“We have made arrangements to deploy them, and by Feb. 1, all of them will be in the field.”
Eze said that the process of verification would continue, adding, “as they come, we will verify and post them”.
He said that the state government had not taken any position on whether or not to augment the monthly stipends paid to the recruits by the Federal Government.

‘Buhari Will Regret If Jonathan, Patience And Tompolo Are Ridiculed’-Niger Delta Militants

Niger Delta militants have renewed their threat to blow up more oil facilities in the region if the Federal Government do not drop the charges against a former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has since declared Tompolo wanted in February over an alleged N45.9bn fraud and charged him to court in absentia. The leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Democratic Front, General Playboy, yesterday warned the Federal Government to leave Tompolo and any indigene from the oil-rich region alone. The militant leader condemned the raid of Gbaramatu Kingdom by soldiers and said government must apologise to Tompolo over the death of his (Tompolo) father. He said, “You (Federal Government) are coming to Gbaramatu Kingdom in search of militants; how many communities in the North-East have you raided in search of Boko Haram? “We have said it before now that we will not stop bombing until the Federal Govern
